How to Throw an Avengers Themed Kids Party
posted by guest blogger: Amee
Bringing all our favourite superheroes together into a single movie, it’s not surprising that The Avengers has been one of the most popular blockbusters of all time, especially amongst the kids! If your child is hoping for an Avengers themed party this year, then we’ve got everything you need to throw a great get-together that’s sure to have the little ones feeling like superheroes themselves. This great activity for kids is very easy, too!
The secret to a themed party is to combine the theme with some classic kids party games so there’s always something fun going on. Think about a scavenger hunt, for example. You can easily transform a classic scavenger hunt into an Avengers themed scavenger hunt by searching for the elusive Loki and the Tesseract. You can make these party games even more exciting by crafting up some Avengers props!
It’s easier than you may think to make Avengers themed props for a party, and masks are some of the simplest, quickest, and most fun options of all. Kids can wear these masks during a scavenger hunt, when roleplaying (see if they can stop Loki from taking over the world!), or when eating some party snacks.
Captain America Mask
What you’ll need:
- White card
- Blue felt
- String or elastic
Next, carefully cut an ‘A’ shape from the white card and glue this onto the middle of the mask, at the top, to look just like Captain America’s mask. Allow to dry and make small holes at either side of the mask, thread string or elastic through, and tie at the back.Begin by sketching a mask shape onto the white card. The kids could even do this part themselves if they’re feeling creative! Carefully cut the mask out using scissors (or safety scissors for children), and cut out the holes for the eyes, too. Use this mask as a template and cut the same shape from a piece of blue craft felt before gluing the felt onto the mask.
What you’ll need:The Hulk Mask
- White paper plate
- White card
- Green paint
- Black felt
- Drinking straw (green if possible)
- Craft eyes (optional)
- Black pen
For something a little different, how about cutting out holes for the eyes, rather than using craft eyes?Begin by asking kids to cover their paper plate in green paint (this might get a little messy, but water-based paint stains are easy to remove from clothes!). As the paint is drying, carefully cut some messy hair from the black felt, along with two tear drop shapes from the white card (these will be the eyes), and a small rectangle (this will be the mouth). Once dry, the hair, eyes, and mouth can all be glued into place. Use a black pen to draw on some teeth, and stick your craft eyes onto the eye pieces. For the finishing touch, glue or tape a straw onto the back, so that children can hold the mask to the face.
Use your imagination
Why stop with just a Captain America mask and a Hulk mask? There’s plenty more props you can make, too, if you put your mind to it! With some red and yellow felt, you could easily make an Iron Man mask in much the same way as you made a Captain America mask, or if you’re feeling really adventurous how about trying to recreate Captain America’s shield from some cardboard and different coloured paints?
There’s no limit as to what props you and your kids can make for a fun Avengers themed party, and they can help to bring more excitement to classic party games!
